Mileage Check
Vehicle mileage queries
If you have conducted a mileage check on a vehicle and 'BVRLA’ appears on the report, this means that the vehicle was previously operated by a BVRLA member - a rental or leasing company.
The BVRLA does not have access to this data – it will have been submitted directly to HPI, Experian and Auto Trader by the rental or leasing company.
Any queries on this data should be directed to your data provider - there may be a small administrative charge for this service. Here are the relevant contact details for these companies:
Auto Trader - operates Auto Trader Vehicle Check - [email protected]
Experian - operates Experian AutoCheck - 0844 481 5661 (dealer) or 0333 000 0178 (individuals)
HPI – operates AA Data Check, instantcarcheck, theaacarcheck.com, HPI Check
0113 222 2000 (dealer) or [email protected] (individuals)
They will then contact the previous owner for you to check the data.
Leasing damage charges
Although the BVRLA writes a Fair Wear & Tear Standard for the industry, we do not carry out inspections of vehicles and so your leasing company is best placed to let you know if they will charge you or not, for anything they deem as outside of their Fair Wear & Tear guidelines and/or your contract.
You may wish to provide them with photos of any damage so they, or their inspection agent, can make an assesment.
If they do not use the BVRLA Fair Wear & Tear Guide©, they may have different limits. Or, they may allow more favourable limits as part of your contract even if they do use the BVRLA Fair Wear & Tear Guide©. You should always speak with your leasing company to discuss, as they will be applying any charges.
Rental Damage Charges
Each rental company sets their own charges so if you speak with your rental company, they will be able to let you know if there is any charge, and what that charge might be.
